The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was formed by a group of rebellious young English artists in 1848 as a reaction against what they saw as the abuses and excesses of the art of their day. They created their own style of painting that looked back to the romance of medieval chivalry. This is a beautifully illustrated survey of what has become the most universally admired movement in English art, which features not only the leading figures such as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, and John Everett Millais, but also their followers. The text divides the movement into the early years of the brotherhood and the later years which reflected the influence of William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones. Over forty artist are illustrated in more than one hundred color plates and numerous black and white illustrations. Includes a bibliography and index. Out of Print. Condition: Near Fine. Bumped spine corners with light edge wear & scuffs on front cover at spine & edge.
