The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck and The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Companion is a graphic novel series detailing the life of the wealthy duck, chronicling his journey from a poor Scottish boy to a rich adventurer. Through a series of interconnected stories, Scrooge's adventures are woven with the history of the United States, embodying the American Dream. The stories focus on Scrooge's origins, his journey to America, his rise to fortune through hard work and perseverance, his various business ventures, and his eventual retirement, which culminates in a test of his grandnephews' worthiness.

Included in this companion are the stories The Cowboy Captain of the Cutty Sark, The Vigilante of Pizen Bluff, The Prisoner of White Agony Creek, Hearts of the Yukon and Sharpie of the Culebra Cut. Finally rounding out the collection are two slightly unusual takes on Scrooge's life: Of Ducks and Dimes and Destinies and Dream of a Lifetime in which the Beagle Boys invade Scrooge's subconscious mind (!) and wreak havoc during dream-versions of the various Life of Scrooge chapters.
