One of the most individual and talented American illustrators of the 1920's, Mahlon Blaine produced a wealth of paintings and drawings for everything from book illustrations to Western landscapes and American Indian legends. As well as illustrating classic works by such writers as Verlaine and Flaubert, William Beckford and Thomas Burke, Blaine wonderfully portrayed the fairy tale world of books like "Castles In Spain" and "The Little Spotted Seal". In a less public vein, portfolios of his drawings were sold to collectors under such titles as Venus Sardonica and Nova Venus Though success eluded him for most of his life, Mahlon Blaine was rarely without his pencil or brush. Gershon Legman knew Blaine for many years, and in his reminiscence of the artist gives a fascinating glimpse of New York in the late 1930s.

Contains 8 color reproductions and over 70 black & white drawings. An extensive bibliography of Mahlon Blaine's work is also provided by Roland Trenary. Front cover: from Hashish and Incense 1929

Roland Trenary is an author and illustrator, winner of The Deathrealm Award, and the International Horror Critic's Guild Award, 4 A.S.F.A. Out of Print. Condition: Fine. Cover has age related yellowing along the spine. Corner bumps.
