MASTER COMICS #15 Facsimile Edition
Cover feature is Minute-Man, plus prime Fawcett heroes Bulletman, El Carim, Zoro the Mystery Man by Mac Raboy, Buck Jones, Companions Three, Capt. Venture and the Planet Princess (Raphael Astarita) and much more. The last appearance of superhero Devil's Dagger, here vs. Mr. H. This is several months before Capt. Marvel Jr. took over the lead spot of this long-running title. The narratives typically involve battling spies, saboteurs, and other villains who pose a threat to the country -- these are prime World War II era stories. Also here, a young Mac Raboy on one of his first assignments for Fawcett -- before he became their lead illustrator and cover artist for Capt. Marvel Jr. Zoro was one of his earliest comic features. The cover of this issue is attributed to Raboy, and I think that's a good guess. Great image of Bulletman and Bulletgirl! Fawcett was a step above the early Golden Age lines -- they were already a successful magazine publisher, and they had more capital to spend on their books than the typical comics publisher. They got the best illustrators, such as Raboy, C.C. Beck, Marc Swayze, Charles Sultan, George Tuska. And they developed superior heroes and heroines, aided by the fine writing of both Otto Binder (whose work is in this issue), Robert Reed and others.
