Before EC discovered horror and sci-fi, there were the "pre-trend" titles like this one, emulating the bloody violence, the bad girls,and the crazed killers found in the highly successful Crime Does Not Pay. Long overlooked except by the most devoted EC fans, now we finally have a good archival reprint. The quality of artwork varies, as our EC boys were just learning their trade. Fine covers by Craig for every issue, plus a story of his also. Feldstein puts in five stories in six issues. Also: Shelly Moldoff, Howard Larson, Leonard Starr, Graham Ingels. "Thrilling tales" of the conflict between gangsters and cops in what was described as "Real Stories from Police Records!" Johnny Craig does all the covers and is generally the stand-out artist here. But we also have two fine stories by Ingels, Stan Ash, Frank Bolle (The Black Phantom) and Leonard Starr (who of course would go on to create Kelly Green and Mary Perkins, as well as Morbious the Living Vampire for Marvel), Shelly Moldoff (Hawkman, Moon Girl), and Howard Larson (Avon work galore).
