From 1972 to 1975, Susan Meiselas spent her summers photographing and interviewing women who performed striptease for small town carnivals in New England, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. As she followed carnivals from town to town, she portrayed the dancers on stage and off, photographing their public performances as well as their private lives. She also taped interviews with the dancers, their boyfriends, the show managers, and paying customers. Susan Meiselas is an American photographer known for her work not only in this collection, but also in war-torn states and other photography for social culture. She has documented the insurrection of Nicaragua, and other human rights issues that have occurred in Latin America. Meiselas won the MacArthur Foundation funding, which she used to produce a visual history of Kurdistan. Condition: Fine Minus. Pages coming loose. Cover and edge wear. Tipped corners.
