Bona R540 Primer & Damp Proof Membrane is a professional one-component polyurethane primer designed to prepare absorbent and non-absorbent subfloors before the installation of wood flooring using Bona silane and polyurethane adhesives.

As well as improving adhesion, Bona R540 acts as a moisture barrier on suitable cementitious subfloors and helps reinforce weak or dusty substrates before flooring installation.

Choose Bona D501 where you simply need an adhesion primer and dust binder. Choose Bona R540 where moisture suppression or additional subfloor reinforcement is required before installing your wood flooring.

Once prepared, Bona R540 can be used before applying:

  • Bona R848
  • Bona Quantum
  • Bona R848T

Application

  1. Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry and structurally sound.
  2. Remove all loose dust, laitance and contaminants.
  3. Apply Bona R540 evenly using a suitable roller or brush.
  4. Allow the primer to cure in accordance with the Technical Data Sheet.
  5. Install the selected Bona adhesive once the primer has fully cured.

Important: Always refer to the latest Bona Technical Data Sheet before use. Moisture protection limits, curing times and application methods depend on the substrate type and site conditions. Carry out moisture testing before selecting the appropriate subfloor preparation system.
